Dr. on Honeymoon

Our 4 year old was hurting, had an awful scarlet rash and high temperature. I was a bit concerned when our regular Pediatrician was on his honeymoon and we had to see the ‘other’ doctor in the practice, he was quite elderly.

He prescribed penicillin, asked a lot of questions, and said we’d talk the next day. Things got worse, and our son’s fever was still high. A few days later our “new” doctor called me early in the morning, asked us to bring him into the office; and added, he’d go down to Children’s Hospital with us. I was sort of shocked.

Our son had a rare childhood disease (Kawasaki disease) that can damage the heart. Thankfully he was treated early as possible and survived with no permanent heart damage. During the disease he couldn’t walk for about a month, all of his skin peeled, he was in great pain.

Having our ‘new’ doctor on the case was key to the miracle of catching it early; as decades before he had had another child with the same disease! He immediately recognized the strange symptoms. I am certain our regular pediatrician would not have recognized the need for fast action. God gave us such a sweet blessing from an elderly doctor’s hands.
