This is a convoluted tale – so I’ll outline so it’s quick to read:
1. I was on the beach with my dog
o A stray dog showed up, a moment later a kind dog loving citizen named Cindy came to ask if he was mine
2. Not my dog, but I happened to have a spare leash a friend had given me a few weeks prior
o Cindy walked to dog a bit hoping someone would recognize him, said she’d try a little longer then head home for the night
3. I went home, was distracted preparing dinner when my husband happened to spot Cindy on our street! We went outside.
4. A friend of our neighbor happened to drive up just as we were talking
5. She had just met a boy looking for a dog but he didn’t give his name.
6. Cindy mentioned that a car she happened to stop said it looked like the ‘Smith’s’ dog
7. The girl in the car happened to know them, and said they lived in our town!
8. I ran into our house and got the old-fashioned phone book – which I had nearly tossed a few weeks prior! We looked up the family name and …
9. We gladly called the owner!
10. She came right over! Said she had just had the worst day. Her mom was admitted to the hospital that afternoon and she came home to a broken fence leading to a lost dog.
Oh, she was so glad to see him safe.
An added blessing is the pup’s mom and I will surely become good friends; in the few moments we talked, we realized she and I share many common interests. It was surely a strange way to meet a new friend, but I think we will laugh about it someday.
