Quiet Time Takeaway:
Arrogance is an affront to God. Saul lost his kingdom over this.
My Notes:
“In God’s sight, it’s not just NOT doing bad things, it’s doing the things He commands.”
Greg Laurie
In 1 Samual, Saul won a big battle and was supposed to completely destroy the Amalekites, but he kept the best livestock for himself and his men….
My paraphrase
“When Samual called Saul on this, he answered: “The soldiers brought them…they spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD… but we totally destroyed the rest.’“
1 Sam. 15:15
Saul is trying to blame others and justify his disobedience, but God sees through it.
“Then he confessed: I was afraid of the men, so I gave into them.”
1 Sam. 15:24
Saul knew what he was supposed to do!
“‘I have sinned. But please honor me before the elders of my people…”
1 Sam. 15:30
Saul disobeyed God to save face. His ego’s arrogance took over. Yet he still wants the honor…
“And the LORD regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.“
1 Sam. 15:35
“To obey is better than sacrifice.”
1 Sam. 15:22
My Hard Takeaway:
The arrogance of bowing to others is an affront to God! He knows my motives; do I want to bring honor to Him or self?
Saul lost his kingdom over this.
