We are blessed to have a small but separate apartment within our new house; we built it thinking we
would share it if a need ever came up. It didn’t take long.
A few weeks ago, a friend of a friend of a friend had a daughter who needed a place to live this summer
for a three-month internship. Short-term rentals are hard to find in Dallas, so my friend reached out to
me. I was about to contact the girl directly, skipping the many layers of friends, when the young man
who pretty much grew up at our house called to tell me he was moving back to Dallas! I was thrilled and
realized he needed a place to stay while he looked for a permanent spot. Thankfully, God intervened
that day as I was about to offer the apartment to the girl.
As a mom, I want to help everyone, but ‘family’ does come first. I think God respects that too, so I
offered him a place to stay for a month or so until he gets settled. (Yes, I did set an end date). We are
glad that he is there while we are away this summer, he is a big help watching over things for us. He has
already met a workman and fixed a leaking faucet; things I couldn’t ask a stranger to do. It’s all very good.
Who knows, it still may work out for the girl to come later in the summer once he has moved out – but
right now it is a blessing to me to have him at the house as a ‘family member’.
