Quiet Time NOTES from Genesis 24:1-9 paraphrased
My lesson today comes from Abraham’s most trusted servant:
It’s good to clarify.
Before the servant swore an oath to Abraham to get a wife for Isaac from Abraham’s own country, he asked clarifying questions to make sure he understood what he was agreeing to do.
He wanted to know how to obey.
‘The servant asked him, (Abraham) “What if the woman is unwilling to come back here with me to this land? Shall I take your son back to the country you came from?”
“Make sure you do not take my son back there,” Abraham said. … The LORD, … promised me an oath saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land …’
(In order to obey God, Isaac had to stay in the land God had given to Abraham!)
Both Abraham and his servant wanted to be obedient to their God and to their master.
My TAKEAWAY:
Each of us needs to understand what is being asked before we can agree to obey.
