Only God could make the loss of a legal battle turn into a medical blessing.
I had a Giant Cell tumor removed from my femur while living in Texas. (It’s a non-malignant tumor that eats the inside of large bones.) A good recovery was expected until the bone fractured 9 weeks after the surgery. I was on crutches for about 6 months hoping it would heal. I did physical therapy twice a day to gain strength.
While I was working on healing my leg and hobbling around on crutches; my husband’s business was involved in a civil lawsuit to protect us from an unscrupulous business partner and his attorney. Amazingly the judge who heard the case had accepted campaign contributions from the defendant’s law firm and she did not remover herself from the case. A political agenda outweighed justice and we lost the trial. (I still feel badly for the jurors who couldn’t see how skewed the evidence presented was. Nonetheless many lives were changed ours included.)
But God’s plan- even when it doesn’t make sense to us- is the better plan. Because we lost the trial we regrouped and moved to Boston in order to be closer to my husband’s business. When we had been there about a month my leg required the removal of the bottom 4 1/2 to 5 inches of the femur as it was continuing to fracture. I’m convinced God intervened as He let us loose the trial so that He could open the door for me to be under the care of the Chief of Orthopedic Oncology at MGH. The surgical team was highly skilled. They gave me the chance to keep the leg I was born with, even if most of it is now metal on the inside! I’m humbled that we lost that trial and felt compelled to move to Boston – as it saved my leg.
God is amazing how He takes a loss and transforms it into a lifelong blessing!
